Intro to Gravel
What is Intro to Gravel?
Intro to Gravel or I2G is a series of rides targeting those cyclists who are new to gravel/adventure cycling.
You and your bike - you should have experience riding off-road on unpaved surfaces. All bikes are welcome but must be capable of riding off-road and/or have knobby/semi-knobby tires!
Spicy Rating🌶️ factors considered (including but not limited to):
number & steepness of hills
length of a climb or descent
overall elevation gain on the route
how challenging the unpaved surfaces are (e.g. gravel, grass, dirt)
major road crossings
vehicle traffic volume
pedestrian traffic volume
riding at high speed
hiking or dismounting
carrying your bike
sensory sensitivities - loud noises, strong smells, etc.

Intro to Gravel #1 - June 13th (new date)
Forest Park, Northwest Portland
**Open to women and non-binary folks who love biking!**
Description: Are you new to gravel? Join us as we ride through Northwest Portland, climbing our way up to Forest Park, where we will enjoy the gravel Leif Erikson trail.

14.4 miles long
~863 ft of elevation gain
45% paved, 55% unpaved (e.g. gravel, grass, dirt, etc)
estimated riding time 2.5 - 3.0 hrs
Spicy Rating (1-5): 🌶️
Spicy Bits: Vehicle traffic, major road crossings, pedestrians on park paths, unpaved surfaces, steep hills, railroad crossings
Ride Capacity: 9 riders
Logistics: Restrooms near starting location, at 4.5 miles, and at 9.5 miles. Paid parking at the start/finish location, may be difficult to find. Please provide extra time if you will be driving to the start location.

Intro to Gravel #2 - August 15th (cancelled)
Southeast Portland
Description: Explore Mt Tabor with us as we climb gravel hills, roll down dirt paths, and walk up occasional steep hills. Must be able to bike to the top of Mt Tabor.
**Open to women and non-binary folks who love biking!**
**This ride is not appropriate for beginner riders.**

52% paved, 48% unpaved (e.g. gravel, grass, dirt, etc)
estimated riding time 1.5- 2.0 hrs

Spicy Bits: lot of climbing, heavy pedestrian traffic on paths, unpaved surfaces, narrow dirt trails with rocks, hiking your bike
Ride Capacity: 9 riders
Logistics: Restrooms located halfway through the ride at mile 3.0. Parking on the street near 60th and SE Harrison.
